Throughout our 10 years of teaching high schoolers, we've noticed that college and career preparation is usually delivered through generic lesson plans, lacking culturally sustaining and evidence-based approaches. School counselors focus primarily on scheduling and test coordination rather than on fostering healthy identity formation and future planning. While college and career readiness classes help set goals, they often fail to address students' emotional and cognitive challenges in achieving these objectives. Many young adults struggle economically due to a lack of coaching in self-study, inquiry, reflection, feedback, and personal agency.
